The Tie
Dave's Blue Wing Smut
Tying Thread, Uni 8 Iron Gray
Hook, Black Magic H14 3x short shank
Tail, 3 or 4 black cock fibres 1.5x
length of hook shank.
Body. First 2mm tying thread, next 2mm (thorax) brown floss silk built up to a greater thickness..
Wings. Leading edge blue wing feathers from Green Rosella wings, tied flat as a matched pair and trimmed to shape and scale with hook size.
Hackle. Short, stiff, black hackle tied fore and aft of wings. Whip finish with about 6 turns, Ensure eye is clear to alleviate the frustration of trying to tie one on while the fish are slurping the naturals down at your feet
